Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 May 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Impactful Career Planner (the Service, we, us) collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Who we are
The Impactful Career Planner is an independent, non-commercial web app operated by Deborah Engelmajer, based in New South Wales, Australia. We are not affiliated with 80,000 Hours.
Privacy questions or requests: deborah.engelmajer@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account data. Your email address, used to sign you in.
- Plan content. The text you write into the career planner — your answers, drafts, and notes. This is stored so it persists across sessions and devices.
- Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) used for security and debugging.
What we do not collect or do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not share your plan content with anyone.
- We do not use your plan content to train AI models or for any purpose other than running the Service for you.
- We do not place advertising or marketing trackers.
- We do not use third-party analytics services.
Where your data is stored
Data is stored with Supabase, our authentication and database provider. Supabase hosts the Service in the Northeast Asia (Tokyo, Japan) region. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
If you sign in from outside Japan, your data is transferred internationally to Supabase's Tokyo servers.
Your rights
- Access. You can view and edit all your plan content within the app at any time.
- Export. You can export your full plan as Markdown or PDF directly from the app.
- Deletion. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data yourself, at any time, from the Account & data page inside the app. You can also email deborah.engelmajer@gmail.com and we will confirm deletion within 30 days.
- Correction. You can edit your plan content directly within the app. For corrections to other data, email us.
EU / UK users. Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you also have rights to data portability, restriction of processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. The lawful basis for processing is your consent (when you create an account and submit content) and our legitimate interest in providing the Service.
Australian users. The Service operates from New South Wales, Australia and complies with the Australian Privacy Principles where applicable. You may make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au if you believe your privacy has been mishandled.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies for authentication (to keep you signed in). We do not use any tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.
Data retention
We retain your account and plan content for as long as your account is active. If your account is inactive for 24 months, we may delete it after notifying you by email at least 30 days in advance. When you delete your account, your data is removed from the live database immediately; residual copies may persist in our provider's encrypted backups for a short period (typically up to a week) before they are overwritten.
Children
The Service is not directed to anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 16, please email us so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify registered users by email and update the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
